Over the last year, I’ve been asking financially successful women what they think women need and want to know about their money and here’s what they shared.

1. If your company has a 401K
2. Women need to value themselves more and that will show up with their money. 
3. Pace yourself. 
4. Have Life Insurance and Disability job insurance in place. 
5. Have a budget

Women in Business: What are your money excuses?  There are reasons why you don't have the money you'd really like to have. One thing to ask yourself: Do you treat money with the respect it deserves?

Perhaps you ignore your money (or should I say the balance in your checking account) except when you need to buy that pair of shoes on sale. Or, you live from pay check to pay check, hoping you’ll make it to the end of the month, but never quite sure. Anxiety provoking? Yes.

On one side of the money coin are those that aren't making enough money and struggle. But, I hear from women all the time on the other side of the NO Respect coin. They make plenty of money, but don’t know where it goes or feel out of control because they're not managing it well.

First Excuse: Not saving enough.

 I bet you could fill in all the blanks of those money clichés. It’s not money that’s evil, but the LOVE of money. 

We know the answers to these money clichés because we unconsciously pick up the cultural messages around us – many of which tell us there’s never enough money.

I think it’s safe to say that all of us have some type of money “stuff”. Our Money Type shows us what is driving your money bus....

The two biggest challenges were:

• “Not making enough money” and
• “Not saving enough for the future.” 

Why aren’t women in business making enough money?

Here’s something I was really good at: ignoring all responsible things (like balancing my checkbook) related to money. My excuse? It’s too overwhelming to pay attention to my money so I won’t think about it!

Research shows that if you ask a woman why she’s in business, she’ll say for independence and to help others. But if you ask a man, the most common answer is to make money.
